| Customer Reviews: An excellent book on Ayurvedic herbs April 3, 2010 Jennifer Malsingh (Bristol, UK) This a brilliant book on Ayurvedic herbs for anyone with an interest in Ayurveda. Indeed, the only reason I am taking one star off is because the book claims to be "The most complete guide" and I would have to disagree with that. However, it is still an excellent book.
The book starts with a good introduction to the basic concepts of Ayurveda, and includes a section on the food and digestion according to Ayurveda, which is very important. Then there is a large section on Ayurvedic herbs. Most of the most popular and important herbs are described here in a fair amount of detail. Some non herbal medicines and some formulas are also discussed. After that there are sections on treatments for specific diseases, and some home remedies too. There is also information about how to use herbs to improve your health and wellbeing, and a few appendices including one with a small amount of Ayurvedic recipes.
The book is written in a clear and easy to read style, with many (sometimes humorous) anecdotes about Yogi Bhajan, the guru of one of the authors. This light and easy style makes it very enjoyable to read. I think that students of Ayurveda will find it to be a very useful book.
The Way of Ayurvedic Herbs December 31, 2008 P. J. De Maziere (Worcestershire) This book is one of the best I have seen on ths subject, however it can be a bit complicated and a good understanding of Ayurveda comes in handy. On the oter side of the coin if you read it slowley you can get to grips with it, my only negative comment is that like most of these books its all "American" and I am wondering why we cant have something "British". Still all the herbs are available in the UK if you have a large Hindu or Muslim community near you they are most helpfull in getting them, failing that there are some good suppliers on the web. My advice buy and enjoy great for reading in bed when your partner has a headache!
