Don't be without it June 28, 2010 Penn Pal (England) If you love your guinea pigs like we do this is a must to have to hand.Buy it!
Every Guineapig owner should have this book August 3, 2007 S. D. Williams (North Wales, GB) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Peter Gurney is an expert in his field. He has a genuine love of the animal and always worked towards making their lives better. I always refer to his web site for help and tips for my 9 pigs and so decided that I really should have this book as my companion! I have not been disappointed because it is brilliant. I wished that it had actual photographs rather than illustrations but the advice is practical and good. I don't have much confidence in vets with my pigs but I can rely on Peter Gurney
A must have! May 30, 2007 Piggie enthusiast (Leicestershire, England) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this book 'just in case' either of our 2 recently acquired piggies should become ill and it wasn't long before it was needed. On checking our piggies one morning I found that one had one of her eyes closed and was huddled in the corner of the hutch (most unusual as she is normally squeaking for her breakfast of cucumber and greens)- I reached straight for 'Piggie Potions.' Within minutes I was able to solve the problem and removed a small piece of hay under the top eyelid painlessly and without a stressful and expensive visit to the vet. The book is well written and easy to understand, which is really important when you are dealing with a poorly animal and want to eleviate it's pain quickly. The book details quite a lot of human medications that are also suitable for piggies such as eyewash, gripewater and a wellknown nappyrash cream. The only thing that I would have liked to have in the book is actual photos of piggies rather than illustrated cartoon-like pictures - although these are quite cute.
The BEST out there for Guinea Pig Care May 1, 2004 L. Field (UK) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I run a guinea pig rescue centre. So many vets (and owners) give up too easily when guinea pigs become ill. This book shows just what can be achieved with a little time and effort....the sense of satisfaction and achievement you get from seeing your animal thrive and thinking "I did that" is very hard to beat. If you have guinea pigs.... you will wonder what you ever did before you had a book by Peter Gurney.
